[series]: Gossip Girl
[character]: Blair Waldorf
[character history / background]: http://gossipgirl.wikia.com/wiki/Blair_Waldorf
[character abilities]: None, she's completely human. Unless being an evil dictator of taste is an ability.
[character personality]: Blair Waldorf starts the series as pretty much the definition of a high school mean girl. She ruled Constance with an iron fist for most of her time there (with a few periods when she got knocked off her throne). She often came off as condescending and at times, cruel. And not all of that was an act either. Blair has been born and raised in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and is used to the finer things in life. She expects the best, and gets rather judgmental against those who don't meet her high standards.
She expects certain behaviors out of people. She generally expects them to follow her lead, though she has gotten a little better about her control issues over the years. As long as you play by her rules, she generally doesn't have a problem with people. But if you cross her, or more importantly cross someone she cares about, she will do anything in her power to bring them down. Though she doesn't scheme and plot as much as she did back in high school she has proven that when push comes to shove? She still has it. This was seen best when Juliet set her best friend, Serena, up. She would stop at nothing to get to the bottom of what happened. She is fiercely loyal to those who she cares about.
Likewise, she doesn't take betrayal well. Blair is vicious when she wants to be. When someone's wronged her, she feels like they don't deserve to be happy. This is best seen in early season four, when she sabotages Chuck's relationship with Eva because she felt he didn't deserve to be happy before she was. Her need to tear people down and make them pay often backfires on her as well. She lost her acceptance to Yale, her dream school, for hazing a teacher. She's had to learn the hard way that every action has a consequence.
A lot of her nasty, or superficial behavior stems from deep rooted insecurity. Blair's never felt comfortable in her own skin. She's always had to try hard for everything she's every wanted. This ends up being a constant source of conflict between her and her best friend, Serena. She's always envied how easy things are for Serena. Everyone loves Serena. Serena gets whatever she wants, whoever she wants. Though she loves her best friend, Blair has often felt like she will always come second place to her.
Back in high school, her insecurity was so bad that she developed an eating disorder, bulimia. Like I mentioned before, Blair is a control freak. She wants to control every aspect of her life as much as she can. This extended to her appearance and weight. She's been in recovery for years now, learning to cope with her problems in other, healthier ways.
College was a challenging time for Blair in many ways, because she ended up being the fish out of water in NYU. She didn't fit in the way she's used to, and even worst, she couldn't gain control over the social aspects of the college the way she had been used to doing in high school. She had to learn to accept that, and not let it affect her self esteem but it was a great struggle. She tried plot after plot, and things kept blowing up in her face. Life there just didn't go the way she expected. So she had to adjust and deal.
Blair is also a romantic at heart, to a terrible fault sometimes. She grew up idolizing Audrey Hepburn movies, and picturing the perfect romance for herself. So much that she often sticks around with a guy longer than she should. Like getting back with Nate after she found out he cheated on her (because she had always pictured herself ending up with Nate). Or the biggest example: Chuck Bass. Even after he tried to sell her to his uncle for a hotel, and then slept with her archenemy (somebody he had also tried to rape in the past) she could not see herself with anyone else, not seriously. In many ways, Chuck has been a dark force in Blair's life, bringing her down to new lows she had never saw herself capable of. And she kept fighting for him, because she didn't think she deserved anything better. She saw herself as bad as he was, she didn't think she could ever rise above it.
Which is why she clung so hard to the concept of Prince Louis, even though she didn't ever really love him. Because after everything she had become, he still wanted her. A real life prince still wanted her. She could still have her fairytale ending. And even after that idea passed, she ended up pregnant. And then lost the baby, and once again felt stuck in a situation she didn't really want to be in any longer.
More than anything, Blair has been yearning for acceptance her whole life. She yearns for it most intensely from her mother. Her mother is a fashion designer and highly critical of people, and when she was younger they had a very strained relationship. She never felt like she was living up to Eleanor's expectations. No matter what she did, how good her grades were, what she accomplished, it wasn't good enough.
Even in her relationships, she always felt like people only accepted parts of her, but never the whole package. Nate liked her good qualities, but hated the way she liked to scheme and play games. Chuck adored those qualities in her, but tried to stifle her good ones. He wanted her to be corrupt, like him. Didn't want her to flourish. He made everything a game, a competition. He never let anything be easy.
Which is what has made her friendship with Dan so important for her. Dan is the first person in her life where Blair feels like she can say whatever she wants without being judged. She can be her true self, and he accepts all of it. It's something she really isn't used to.
Blair tends to be overdramatic. She often blows things out of proportion. She can get upset and decide to stay in her bed for weeks over the stupidest things. During those times she usually refuses to talk to anyone but her maid, Dorota, who is Blair's biggest confident and in some ways closest friend. A sort of mother figure her own mother never was for her.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: End of 4x17, Empire of the Son.

[The feed opens up to show a rather upset looking Upper East Side resident.]
Excuse me? I don't know who's responsible for this, but if you think you can get away with kidnapping a Waldorf? You have another thing coming. I hope you know my stepfather, Cyrus, is a very successful lawyer and when he and my mother find out what you've tried to do here you're going to wish you had never even thought of this stupid little blackmail scheme of yours.
Because that's what this is, right?
[She rolls her eyes before speaking in a mocking voice.] Let's kidnap the poor Waldorf girl, that'll show Eleanor for firing me or whatever your stupid offense is.
I don't really care. What I care about is you giving up on this and taking me home.
So the sooner we can do that? The better.
[And the feed cuts out.]
